High Carbon Steel
Medium and high carbon steel contain varying percentages of carbon, which significantly influence their mechanical properties and applications. The term “medium carbon steel” typically refers to steels with a carbon content ranging from 0.3% to 0.6%, while the term “high carbon steel” refers to steels with a carbon content ranging from approximately 0.6% to 1.4%.
Both medium and high carbon steels can be further enhanced through heat treatment processes—such as quenching or tempering—to improve their performance characteristics even more extensively based on specific engineering requirements.
Key Features and Benefits
- High hardness
- Higher tensile strengths
- Cost effective
- Highly responsive to heat treatment (such as quenching and tempering)
