140 ksi Steel
140 ksi steel plate refers to ultra‐high strength steel (UHSS) plate products with a minimum yield strength in the vicinity of 140 ksi (965 MPa). These steels are typically quenched & tempered (Q&T), which is designed for structural and heavy fabrication applications where high load‐carrying capacity, weight savings, or elevated material performance are required. The strength is developed through precise microalloying, thermomechanical processing, and quench-and-temper heat treatment. During this Q&T processing, the steel undergoes austenitizing, rapid quenching, and tempering to balance hardness and ductility. The quench rate and tempering temperature are carefully managed to develop a tempered martensitic microstructure with fine carbide dispersion.
