Sheet & Strip
The terms steel sheet and strip products are often used interchangeably in general conversation. However, there are some rough guidelines for each. Both are originally produced as thin gauge coil products typically less than 3/16” (.1875”) in thickness.
Sheet vs Strip
Steel sheet is created in a hot strip mill by rolling a cast slab flat while retaining the width measurement. In this state the pliable steel can be lengthened to several hundred feet as it is compressed by the rolling mill.
Steel strip is thin flat steel like hot-rolled sheet but is normally narrower width produced to stricter thickness specifications. Strip steel can also be obtained by cutting steel sheet using a slitting machine.
