Building a Smarter, Sustainable Steel Supply Chain
Sustainability at Steel Warehouse means accountability — to our customers, our communities, and our future.
With our partner Gravity, we’re creating a transparent, data-driven path to reduce emissions and improve performance across our operations.
Why It Matters Now
At Steel Warehouse, sustainability isn’t just an initiative — it’s a business strategy rooted in responsibility. We care about doing things the right way — for our customers, our employees, and the communities we call home. That’s why we invest in smart systems and practical practices that don’t just check boxes — they help our partners stay competitive in a changing regulatory landscape. Our approach is methodical, measurable, and built around the real-world demands of OEMs and fabricators who rely on us every day.
That’s why we’ve partnered with Gravity. Their platform helps us quantify carbon emissions across our supply chain — from sourcing and processing to freight — so we can provide verified, actionable data to the people who need it: procurement teams, ESG auditors, and investors. Furthermore, we will utilize the collected data to identify energy efficiency projects that deliver tangible savings. No fluff. Just facts.
Our Emissions Roadmap
We’re building a sustainable foundation with real milestones — not vague promises. Here’s where we’re headed:
Summer 2025
→ Scope 1 & 2 reporting completed across all U.S. and Mexico facilities (baseline: 2024)
Fall 2025
→ Scope 3 planning begins with Gravity
→ Energy efficiency programs initiated
→ Target-setting for emissions reduction
Mid-2026
→ Release of our 2025 Sustainability Report, including Scope 3 data and progress updates
Beyond Emissions: Smarter Materials, Smarter Use
We’re scaling resource efficiency where it counts. Our expanded recycling program now includes scrap steel, aluminum, hardened tool steel, catalytic converters, electric motors, used oils, and more — because waste reduction is good for the environment and the bottom line.
At the same time, we’re leveraging product innovation to help customers meet their own sustainability targets. High-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) steels and lightweighting solutions reduce material use, improve fuel efficiency, and extend product life — all without compromising structural performance.
Investing in Our Workforce
Sustainability starts with the people who power our business. At Steel Warehouse, we’re committed to being a workplace where people are supported, challenged, and given opportunities to grow.
- Comprehensive benefits include health insurance, 401k, life insurance, and paid time off — everything employees expect from a top-tier employer.
- Training and development programs equip employees at every level with the skills to succeed — from safety certifications to leadership tracks.
- Wellness incentives support healthy living through biometric screenings, fitness perks, and more.
- Career advancement is real here. Many of our leaders started on the plant floor — and moved up through performance.
We don’t just hire — we invest. That’s how we’ve built a team with loyalty, longevity, and deep operational know-how.
Investing in Communities, Not Just Compliance
Sustainability includes the people and places where we operate. In 2023 alone, Steel Warehouse contributed over $2.5 million to organizations making a local impact — from health care and education to youth sports, safety, and economic development.
Take the Ice Box Skating Rink in South Bend — now supporting over 1,300 skaters, hosting 1,800+ games annually, and drawing 44,000+ visitors across 29 states. It’s one of many long-term partnerships we’ve built that deliver real results where they matter most.
From robotics teams to emergency responders, we support over 40 grassroots organizations across North and South America. These aren’t donations. They’re investments in resilience and shared success.
The Trusted Solution — For a Changing Future
Our sustainability strategy is clear: focus on data, discipline, and performance. We’re not chasing headlines. We’re building the systems, partnerships, and capabilities our customers can count on — today and into the next decade.
Because in this business, trust isn’t claimed. It’s earned. And we intend to keep earning it.
