Steel Products Specialty Strip Steel Spring Steel
Spring Steel
Our Specialty Strip division sets the standard for producing cold rolled strip for spring steel applications. Every process, from pickling to slitting to cold rolling to annealing, is managed in-house on one campus to ensure uniform performance coil after coil. When accuracy and dependability matter, we are the source trusted by leading spring steel manufacturers.
What is Spring Steel?
Spring steel is spheroidize annealed, high-carbon material engineered for elasticity, resilience, and fatigue strength. Typical compositions contain 0.50–1.00% carbon with controlled additions of chromium, vanadium, or silicon to enhance hardenability and temper resistance. Spring steel grades are produced to achieve high yield strength and controlled ductility for components that deflect under stress without permanent deformation.
Spring Steel Grades
Our spring steel grades are produced to meet a range of forming and strength requirements:
- 1050: Medium carbon steel offering balanced strength and formability for general-purpose applications.
- 1074 / 1075: Higher carbon content for increased hardness in clips, blades, and small springs.
- 1095: High carbon steel delivering maximum strength and wear resistance for precision parts and cutting tools.
- 6150: Chromium-vanadium alloy steel providing excellent toughness and fatigue resistance for high-stress components.
Our Processes
Our South Bend, IN campus brings every process together under one roof, giving you complete control from raw material to finished product. With everything managed in one place, your material moves with precision, consistency, and speed you can count on.
