As steel products continue to evolve into higher yield, higher tensile grades, conventional high strength steel is one of the most widely used types of steels across many applications. High strength steel has a yield strength that ranges between 30-80 ksi (210-550 MPa) and a tensile strength between 40-100 ksi (270 to 700 MPa). The grade designations are the minimum yield strength in KSI. The increased strength of these materials allows for designs using thinner material and reduced weight. In essence, structures made of high strength steels are lighter weight, yet stronger.

Dimensions & Properties

Whether steel qualifies as plate or sheet depends on the specification used for certification. There is a large overlap in popular thicknesses between plate and sheet, but steel plates are offered in a much broader range of sizes.
