AR 500

AR500 is an abrasion resistant steel designed for applications where severe wear can shorten equipment life. With a typical hardness around 500 BHN, it provides greater wear resistance than AR400 and AR450 for components exposed to continuous sliding, scraping, and abrasive material. That added hardness can extend service life and reduce how often wear parts need to be repaired or replaced.

AR450 vs. AR500

AR450 and AR500 are both abrasion resistant steels designed for wear-intensive applications, but they differ in hardness, impact strength, and formability. AR450 typically has a nominal hardness of around 450 Brinell and offers a balanced combination of abrasion resistance and impact toughness, making it suitable for buckets, hoppers, and structural components exposed to moderate wear and impact. On the other hand, AR500 with a hardness around 500 Brinell, provides higher wear resistance and longer service life in extreme conditions. On the downside, AR500 is less formable and more challenging to machine or weld.
