Our temper passing services involve a process technology used to improve surface appearance and correct incoming shape anomalies. Steel Warehouse uses Temper Mills placed in-line on our Temper Pass Cut to Length lines before the leveler and rotary shear, and they include a rotary brush unit.  We also have a number of coil to coil temper mills used to enhance the surface, gauge control, shape and residual stress or coil memory.

What is Temper Passing Steel?

Temper passing is performed to help remove coil memory, improving qualities such as yield strength, ductility, and surface finish while reducing residual stresses that can lead to warping or cracking during subsequent processing or end-use applications.  The technique involves passing steel through a series of rollers. The thickness of the steel is typically reduced by 0.5 to 3 percent, and can be used to change the material gauge.
