Aircraft Quality Grades

Aircraft quality & grade steels are meant for highly stressed parts in the aerospace industry.

Special steelmaking practices, more rigid inspection techniques, and more restrictive selection meet the quality standards. There are three levels of quality which have been accepted by producers and users of aircraft steel:

Aircraft Quality - is the most commonly specified quality for general aerospace uses.

Special Aircraft Quality - places minimum values on ductility in the transverse direction.

Premium Aircraft Quality - The ultimate quality that can currently be obtained in production amounts and is usually applied to the most critical parts and components. This steel is made by consumable electrode vacuum arc remelting.
